The music of Atlantean Sparrows is hard to categorize as it skims the edges of many genres. Sometimes the music provides the perfect soundtrack to a Gothic spaghetti western with its mournfully tremulous guitar and rich balladic vocals, other times it could be the sound track to a disturbing post-industrial nightmare full of malfunctioning angle grinders and screaming, sparking metal. Atlantean Sparrows are good at providing a long, slow build up to, what is usually, the disturbing crescendo of a song. The musical journey is complex and often laced with unexpected diversions: seemingly solid melodies suddenly buckle, career off at weird angles and diffuse into raw anguish and particles of punk. Though the bass line provides a grounding and reassuring heart beat, the multiple layers of sound that surround and weave themselves in and out of its pulse can be psychotic: musical threads unravel and fray into polyphonic
chaos. The vocal style is flexible, ranging from honeyed crooning to jagged angst-loaded expression .The sound of Atlantean Sparrows is sometimes vast and expansive, sometimes caged, claustrophobic and ready to shatter . Both Atlantean Sparrows debut and current albums ( How Are you?) are dark, richly textured and highly evocative providing the listener with a variety of musical terrains: deserts, cities, wide open spaces, and the convoluted interiors of the human mind.
